Aaron Frazer explains Same Old Game ahead of October’s Corners EP

Frazer links his new single to childhood-crush soul songs. Dead Oceans lists the six-song Corners EP for October 30, separately from later 7-inch editions.

Aaron Frazer released Same Old Game on October 6, ahead of Corners, a six-song EP due October 30 through Dead Oceans. The singer and drummer from Durand Jones & the Indications describes a childhood crush in the new song. The EP and the separately announced 7-inch pairings are different release formats.

In the label’s announcement, Frazer points to the Intruders’ Cowboys to Girls as a reference for soul songs about growing from childhood concerns into romantic feelings. He says Same Old Game belongs to that tradition, with a longstanding crush imagined as a back-and-forth game of tag. That is Frazer’s explanation of the song, rather than a meaning inferred from its lyrics.

The label says Corners was written and recorded between tours over the past year, with contributors including Cold Diamond & Mink, Kelly Finnegan, Mayer Hawthorne and Tommy Brenneck. Its song descriptions offer other entry points into the collection: Paint The Picture concerns yearning, Let Your Love Grow concerns opening up after heartbreak, and Back Into The World concerns emerging from a breakup. The linked EP page lists all six tracks, while Frazer’s official website supplies music and video routes. Playback and worldwide availability have not been tested.

Dead Oceans’ October 6 announcement listed November 13 for the Colemine 7-inch pairing Paint The Picture backed with Back Into The World, followed by December 4 for Same Old Game backed with Let Your Love Grow. Those are the dates in that announcement; current physical-release timing was not independently confirmed. Neither date is the EP’s October 30 release date. Prices, current stock, checkout and delivery terms were not verified for this report.
