Spotify introduces Shapers in Colombia: recognition, not a creator ranking

Spotify’s new Shapers program recognizes voices in Colombian music discovery. Its selection criteria do not make participants company spokespeople.

Spotify introduced Shapers on October 8, a program recognizing people who contribute to music discovery and conversation in Colombia. The announcement describes work such as documenting scenes, recommending recordings and explaining genres, rather than limiting recognition to one kind of content creator.

A companion explanation sets out five selection criteria: impact on the music ecosystem, depth and context, relevance within a community, authenticity and editorial voice, and the ability to connect culture with audiences. Spotify says this is a first wave of recognition. It does not present the selection as a ranking or a definitive list of Colombia’s best creators.

For listeners encountering the Shapers name, that distinction matters. Spotify says selection is not an editorial endorsement of everything a recognized creator produces, and participants do not become its ambassadors or spokespeople. Treat the designation as recognition under the company’s stated criteria, rather than a guarantee attached to every recommendation or opinion.

The two announcement pages explain the program and its limits but do not identify participants or supply their listening recommendations. They also do not set out an application route or timetable. Readers can consult the linked selection explanation to understand what the designation means; this announcement alone is not yet a guide to particular Colombian creators or recordings.
